the universe in the palm of your hand

The day I spoke to God
He listened and answered:
“Tell me of your intimate desires
and I will show you your deepest wounds.
It hurts more before it can hurt less, you see.
We must break the bone again if it is to heal.
Tell me of your resentment and judgement of others
and I will show you the ugliest side of your shadow,
the one you’ve locked away and kept suppressed.
We must let her out into the light – how else will you fill her with it?
Tell me of your long-lost childhood
and I will show you how adults have failed to grasp
that endless possibility runs deep in young blood
only to grow to be shamed, repressed, harassed.
Tell me my daughter – how may I help you
and I will show you the infinity that I am,
that wonder which made you,
to which all inevitably return.
I will show you infinity within you,
for you carry me wherever you go.
How could you ever think you stand alone
when you hold the entire universe in the palm of your hand?”
